World-famous 43-sq-km Kabili-Sepilok forest sanctuary rehabilitating orphaned and rescued Bornean orangutans back into the wild.
Overview & Visitor Experience
Established in 1964 in Sandakan, Sepilok is the world's most renowned orangutan sanctuary. Spanning 4,300 hectares of virgin rainforest reserve, it rescues orphaned and displaced Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) and teaches them survival skills before releasing them back into the wild. Visitors watch twice-daily feeding sessions from covered boardwalk platforms and view young orangutans playing in the Outdoor Nursery.

30-minute taxi or public bus from Sandakan town or Sandakan Airport (SDK).
