Overview & Visitor Experience
Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) is the historic site where the Union Jack was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on 31 August 1957. Across the field stands the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, constructed in 1897 with horseshoe arches, copper domes, and a 41-metre clock tower.
How to Get There
Take the LRT Kelana Jaya or Ampang/Sri Petaling Line to Masjid Jamek Station. Walk 5 minutes west across the River of Life bridge.
