Istana Lama Seri Menanti is an architectural marvel of Malay craftsmanship. Built between 1902 and 1908 by master artisans Tukang Kahar and Tukang Taib, the four-storey timber palace stands supported by 99 hardwood pillars without using a single metal nailβheld together entirely by wooden pegs. It showcases ornate carvings of flowers and dragons and exhibits the royal regalia of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
